Court sentences Portable to three months in prison

An Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ifo Local Government Area, has sentenced controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, to three months in prison, with an option of a N30,000 fine.

Portable was found guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The musician was arrested in March 2023 after physically attacking a police inspector and obstructing officers who were attempting to serve him an arrest warrant.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, had earlier informed the court that Habeeb Okikiola committed the offense on 18 November 2022 at approximately 11:00 am in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

The charge sheet reads: “That you, Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, and others now at large, on the 18th day of November 2022 at 11:00 hrs, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: assault, and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State 2006.

Man rapes 3 sisters in Ibadan

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan on Thursday ordered the remand of a 34-year-old man, Femi James, in a correctional facility for allegedly raping three sisters and one other.

James, whose address was not provided, was charged with rape.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She thereafter adjourned the case until June 19, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olarotimi told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2017 and 2025, at Akobo area of Ibadan.

Lawyer, client shot dead after court session in Anambra
The police command in Anambra has launched manhunt for suspected killers of a legal practitioner returning from the court, after securing bail for a defendant in a murder case.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Awka.

Ikenga said the gunmen also gunned down two others who accompanied the lawyer but one survived.

He said that the three victims were returning from High Court II Ekwulobia in Orumba North Local Government of the state when the incident occurred.

He said that the legal practitioner had bailed a defendant in a pending murder case at the Court not knowing that they were trailed as they left the court.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, today led a team of senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and others on a visit to the crime scene at Egbebelu village.

Kidnap kingpin going for Hajj arrested at airport

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), on Monday, intercepted a suspected kidnap kingpin identified as Sani Galadi at Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto.

It was learnt that Galadi, who was arrested at about 11:15am at the airport during a screening exercise for pilgrims, was trailed by the intelligence officers and finally arrested at the Hajj terminal.

Galadi’s arrest came less 24 hours after a wanted kidnap kingpin was also arrested at the hajj camp in Abuja while en route to Saudi Arabia.

Security agencies had earlier declared Abuja kingpin wanted following his alleged involvement in some kidnappings within Kogi and Abuja.

Confirming Sokoto’s arrest to our correspondent, a highly-placed source within security agencies said the intelligence officers were on a covert operations to rid the country of heinous crimes and criminalities.
