BREAKING: Shakeup in NNPC, Mele Kyari’s henchmen shown the way out

In a significant restructuring of its management, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has terminated the services of a number of senior staff members. This is according to a report by TheCable this Tuesday evening, April 29, 2025.

The portal said that among those departing immediately are Bala Wunti, former chief of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), and Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of the Kaduna Refinery.

“Also asked to leave was Lawal Sade, the chief compliance officer and former managing director of NNPC Trading.

“They are believed to be very close to Mele Kyari, who was removed as group chief executive officer (GCEO) on April 2, 2025,” TheCable said. It reported that “over 200 employees have been impacted, marking the beginning of what may be a series of staff changes.”

Lagos Govt shuts down Cubana Chief Priest’s restaurant

The Lagos State Government has sealed off DONALD Restaurant, owned by popular nightlife entrepreneur, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for environmental violations.

The restaurant, located In the Lekki area of Lagos, was shut down after two of its staff were caught dumping refuse by the roadside.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on his X handle.

He stated that the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) had alerted LAWMA in the early hours of Saturday, May 18, 2025, about illegal dumping of waste along Durosimi-Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1.

Roughly two dozen states filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Trump administration over sweeping cuts to AmeriCorps, the federal volunteer service program established in 1993. ⁠

The suit accuses the Department of Government Efficiency of unlawfully gutting the agency and terminating hundreds of millions in congressionally approved grants. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said the administration made “abrupt and drastic cuts to staff and volunteers and terminated grants.”⁠

AmeriCorps programs support more than 200,000 members annually, many of whom receive stipends and education benefits while working in community organizations, disaster relief, and public service projects.⁠

According to the complaint, at least 85% of staff were placed on administrative leave this month, and some 2,000 members of the National Civilian Community Corps were informed they would be dismissed early. Notices sent to grantees cited a shift in agency priorities.⁠

The White House defended the move by citing $40 million in improper payments attributed to documentation and coding errors. “President Trump has the legal right to restore accountability to the entire Executive Branch,” said Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly. ⁠

EFCC quizzes suspected ‘Yahoo’ school operators and students

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have commenced investigation of 30 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in a Yahoo training School (a.k.a Hustle Kingdom, HK) in Benin City, Edo State capital.

The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

It wrote: “The suspects, arrested by officers of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army at their hideout in Benin City, were on Monday April 28, 2025 handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.

“At the time of arrest, the Yahoo School has full trappings of a conventional computer school with desktop computers, work stations and other computer accessories. There was also a compartment stocked with various fetish items.

“Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Corolla car, phones, laptops and Mpeg Audio-layer 3, MP3.
