Family cries out as security operatives detain pregnant woman, two kids for 20 days in Anambra

A family has raised alarm over the alleged prolonged detention of a pregnant woman and her two young children by Udogachi operatives in Nnewi, Anambra State, without formal charges or acknowledgement by the police.

The Guardian reports that the police inaugurated ‘Operation Udogachi-Zero Kidnapping in Anambra on April 14 to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors.

But, according to a petition filed by the family’s legal representatives to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Friday, Mr. Ikwo Daniel, his pregnant wife, Chinenye Cynthia, and their two children—aged two and four—were reportedly arrested at their residence on Eme Court Road, Umudim Nnewi, in the early hours of May 30, 2025.

Lawyer, client shot dead after court session in Anambra
The police command in Anambra has launched manhunt for suspected killers of a legal practitioner returning from the court, after securing bail for a defendant in a murder case.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Awka.

Ikenga said the gunmen also gunned down two others who accompanied the lawyer but one survived.

He said that the three victims were returning from High Court II Ekwulobia in Orumba North Local Government of the state when the incident occurred.

He said that the legal practitioner had bailed a defendant in a pending murder case at the Court not knowing that they were trailed as they left the court.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, today led a team of senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and others on a visit to the crime scene at Egbebelu village.

Lagos Govt shuts down Cubana Chief Priest’s restaurant

The Lagos State Government has sealed off DONALD Restaurant, owned by popular nightlife entrepreneur, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for environmental violations.

The restaurant, located In the Lekki area of Lagos, was shut down after two of its staff were caught dumping refuse by the roadside.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on his X handle.

He stated that the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) had alerted LAWMA in the early hours of Saturday, May 18, 2025, about illegal dumping of waste along Durosimi-Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1.

A member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State, Rep Aminu Jaji has decried the worsening security situation in his constituency, painting a harrowing picture of bandit attacks, mass kidnappings, and general lawlessness that have left communities devastated and residents displaced.

Briefing journalists at the National Assembly, the lawmaker, who previously chaired the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, said over 200 attacks have been recorded in communities across Kaura Namoda Local Government Area alone, including Dayo, Banga, Gabaki, Korea, and Madura.

“Just two days ago, 60 people were abducted in Banga. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 30 million naira. Out of those abducted, 10 were killed, and the fate of the remaining 50 hangs in the balance,” he said.
