Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew, has died by suicide.

In a statement, her family confirmed she passed away on Friday night at her property in Neergabby in the shire of Gingin, about 20 kilometres north of Perth.

"It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away [on Friday night] at her farm in Western Australia," the statement said.

"She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.

"Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking.

"She was the light that lifted so many survivors. Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure."

Advocates say gender-based violence is being ignored during the election campaign.

Angela Lynch, executive officer of the Queensland Sexual Assault Network, told Radio National Breakfast that there has been silence.

"It sends a message to our community, because it hasn't been a priority, that it's really not a national priority as [previously] stated," she said.

Australia's two major political parties may be "resting on their commitment to the national plan", the domestic violence prevention advocate added.

While she said a national plan is important in providing "a blueprint for action", she underlined that it is "simply not enough".

"We know that the violence is increasing. We know that the reports of rape and sexual violence are increasing every year.

"Four women were killed last week in relation to gender-based violence.

"We really need to double down on our efforts … we need to find new solutions if we're going to end this in a generation, which both parties and all governments around Australia have promised."

In a significant development, India's Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, has publicly acknowledged that Indian fighter jets were lost during the recent conflict with Pakistan, known as Operation Sindoor. General Chauhan, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, emphasized the importance of understanding the reasons behind the losses rather than focusing on the number of aircraft downed. General Chauhan noted that after the initial setbacks, the Indian Air Force quickly adapted its tactics. He mentioned that the force understood the tactical mistakes made, remedied them, and resumed operations with improved strategies, including long-range targeting.

Both countries have since declared a ceasefire, with no indications of nuclear escalation during the conflict. However, the situation remains tense, and the international community continues to monitor developments closely.
