The case was brought by a court in the Tuscan city of Lucca, which questioned the legality of denying "full dual parenthood" in a case involving a lesbian couple.

As an Olympic gold medalist and Champions League winner, Almuth Schult was one of the top goalkeepers in women’s soccer, but she believes her career ended early because clubs were reluctant to sign a player with children.
The 34-year-old announced her retirement in March, three months after her contract ended with the Kansas City Current in the National Women’s Soccer League in the US. 
In an interview published by Germany’s Kicker magazine on Tuesday, she said she felt she could have played another “one, two years at the highest level” and that she believes being a mother was “the main reason” talks didn’t work out.
 
Schult gave birth to twins in 2020 and a third child in 2023.
 
“I was already out of contract after my second pregnancy,” said Schult, who played 66 times for the German national team. “No club believed I could still help, even though I had already proven it after my first pregnancy.”

Britain’s real-life spies have finally caught up with James Bond, with MI6 appointing its first female chief.

Blaise Metreweli, who joined the Secret Intelligence Service in 1999, will become the 18th chief of the organisation and take over from Sir Richard Moore later this year.

A career intelligence officer, Metreweli, 47, steps from the shadows into the light as the only MI6 employee whose name is made public.

"I am proud and honoured to be asked to lead my Service," she said.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the “historic appointment” comes at a time when the work of intelligence services has never been more vital. He made the announcement as he arrived in the Canadian province of Alberta for the G7 summit.
