The Indian Navy has recently conducted a significant maritime operation in the Arabian Sea, showcasing its advanced combat capabilities and strategic readiness. This operation involved the successful testing of the indigenously developed Naval Anti-Ship Missile – Short Range (NASM-SR), a collaborative effort between the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Launched from a Sea King helicopter, the missile demonstrated precision targeting by striking a small ship target in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range. The NASM-SR features advanced technologies, including an indigenous imaging infrared seeker for terminal guidance and a high-bandwidth two-way datalink system, allowing in-flight retargeting by transmitting live images back to the pilot .

This missile trial is part of a broader initiative to enhance India's maritime security, particularly in response to increasing threats in the region. Under Operation Sankalp, the Indian Navy has augmented its presence in the Arabian Sea by deploying a fleet of modern destroyers, including INS Kolkata, INS Kochi, INS Mormugao, INS Chennai, and INS Visakhapatnam. These deployments aim to safeguard maritime trade routes and ensure the safety of merchant vessels amidst rising tensions and attacks on commercial shipping .
