The U.S. military parade held on June 14, 2025, in Washington, D.C., has sparked widespread criticism for its poor execution and political undertones. Organized to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, the event was meant to be a grand patriotic celebration. However, many veterans, spectators, and critics called it the sloppiest and least disciplined military parade they had ever seen. Reports described soldiers marching out of sync, lack of formal saluting, and an overall unprofessional appearance.

Adding to the controversy was the choice of music. The parade featured classic rock songs, including Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” a well-known anti-war anthem criticizing the privileged who escape military service. The event was also politically charged, with some viewing it as a personal tribute to Trump rather than a nonpartisan celebration of the military. Critics pointed out the cost of the parade—estimated between $25 to $45 million—as wasteful, especially in light of ongoing budget concerns facing the Department of Veterans Affairs. A majority of Americans, according to polls, felt the parade was an unnecessary use of taxpayer money.

12 wedding guests attacked, killed In Plateau, 11 others injured

At least, 12 travelers from Basawa community of Zaria local government area of Kaduna state have been attacked and killed in Mangu local government area of Plateau state.

11 out the travelers who were injured in the attack, which happened on Friday, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Our correspondent reports that a group of 31 travelers including men, women and children, were being conveyed in an 18-seater Bus, belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, when they were attacked by the assailants around 8:pm.

It was gathered that the travelers were heading for Qua’an Pan LGA to attend a wedding ceremony when they ran into a mob.

The Chief Imam of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Suleiman Haruna, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the corpses have been deposited at Mangu General Hospital.

Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing him holding a firearm during an encounter with a content creator.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this update Tuesday afternoon, June 17.

The Command confirmed that Adefarasin was being interrogated over the video.

Recall that a video clip emerged online last week showing Pastor Adefarasin holding a metallic object while speaking to a passerby who was recording him.

After the viral video, the pastor denied allegations suggesting he brandished a firearm.

“You might be aware of a video circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm. I want to assure you that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone,” he stated.

In a WhatsApp message, CSP Hundeyin wrote: ”No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives.

“They have commenced an investigation into the case following the emergence of a video showing the pastor holding a gun-like object toward another road user while driving in an unregistered vehicle.

“The outcome of the investigation will be made public.”
