Organized to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, the event was meant to be a grand patriotic celebration. However, many veterans, spectators, and critics called it the sloppiest and least disciplined military parade they had ever seen. Reports described soldiers marching out of sync, lack of formal saluting, and an overall unprofessional appearance.

Adding to the controversy was the choice of music. The parade featured classic rock songs, including Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” a well-known anti-war anthem criticizing the privileged who escape military service. Many saw this as a deeply ironic and inappropriate choice for an event meant to honor military service—especially considering it was used to salute a president who himself avoided the draft. The move was widely mocked online and condemned by veterans and military commentators.

The event was also politically charged, with some viewing it as a personal tribute to Trump rather than a nonpartisan celebration of the military. Critics pointed out the cost of the parade—estimated between $25 to $45 million—as wasteful, especially in light of ongoing budget concerns facing the Department of Veterans Affairs. A majority of Americans, according to polls, felt the parade was an unnecessary use of taxpayer money.

Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys and widely regarded as a musical genius, has died at 82. ⁠

His family announced his death on Wednesday through his official website and social media accounts. No further details were released. Wilson, who played bass and wrote many of the group’s defining songs, was the last surviving Wilson brother.⁠

Starting in Hawthorne, California in the early 1960s, the Beach Boys rose from a local act to international symbols of surf culture. Their catalog included more than 30 Top 40 hits, driven by Wilson’s intricate harmonies and studio experimentation. The 1966 album Pet Sounds, shaped by his admiration for Phil Spector’s production, was later cited by Paul McCartney as a key influence on Sgt. Pepper’s. The group joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.⁠

Wilson withdrew from touring in 1964 amid mounting psychological strain but continued to direct the band’s evolving sound. Songs like “Good Vibrations” and “Don’t Worry Baby” reflected both his technical ambition and personal turmoil. Paris erupted into chaos on May 31, 2025, after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their first-ever UEFA Champions League title with a stunning 5–0 victory over Inter Milan.
