There was mild drama at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Friday, when the state’s Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, allegedly sl@pp€d the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a heated altercation.

The incident occurred during the turbaning of former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, as Makama Babba 1 of Bauchi Emirate, which coincided with the wedding of his daughter, Khadija Mohammed.

The high-profile event was attended by top political figures including Kashim Shettima and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, among others
According to eyewitnesses, the clash ensued after the Foreign Minister reportedly made disparaging comments about the Bala Mohammed-led administration, comments the deputy governor allegedly found off€ns+ve.

“The Deputy Governor was visibly furious. It was a shocking moment.

” If not for Vice President Shettima’s swift intervention, it could have escalated b@dly,” a source told newsmen

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who served as the Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of Vice President Kashim Shettima, has resigned from his position. Sources within the presidency confirmed that he tendered his resignation approximately two weeks ago, citing personal reasons. It remains unclear whether the presidency has officially accepted his resignation.   

Appointed in September 2023, Dr. Baba-Ahmed represented the presidency at various public engagements during his 17-month tenure. Notably, he participated in the national conference titled “Strengthening Nigeria’s Democracy: Pathway to Good Governance and Political Integrity” in Abuja from January 28 to 29, 2025. 

His tenure was marked by some controversies, including a public exchange with the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, in April 2024. The disagreement arose after Dr. Baba-Ahmed defended the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) against Matawalle’s criticism, leading to a debate about the roles of northern appointees in promoting the administration’s achievements. 

Dr. Baba-Ahmed, a former spokesperson for the NEF, has had a distinguished career in public service, including roles as Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Chief of Staff to former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

2027: APC, PDP, LP involved in coalition to stop Tinubu’s re-election — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed plans for a major political coalition involving the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP) to confront what he described as the ‘incompetent and inefficient’ government of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku made the announcement while addressing a delegation of stakeholders from the Kogi East Senatorial Zone, led by former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, in Abuja.

The meeting also focused on addressing regional insecurity and fostering unity in the North.

Speaking at the event, Atiku expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, blaming the Tinubu administration for its lack of political will to address the issue.

He recounted his experience as Vice President during the early days of the Boko Haram insurgency, highlighting how decisive leadership under his administration had temporarily quelled the threat.
