On April 22, 2025, a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The attack, which targeted tourists, is being described as one of the deadliest in the region in recent years. A militant group called "Kashmir Resistance" claimed responsibility, opposing the settlement of non-locals in the region.

In response to the incident, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the media and announced a series of strong decisions. India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, demanding that the neighboring country end its support for cross-border terrorism. Visa restrictions have also been imposed, with Pakistani nationals now barred from traveling to India under the SAARC visa exemption program. Existing visas have been canceled, and holders must leave India within 48 hours. In addition, India has expelled Pakistani military attachés and withdrawn its own from Pakistan. The Integrated Check Post at Attari has also been closed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack, vowing justice for the victims. Home Minister Amit Shah traveled to Srinagar to oversee security measures. Globally, the attack drew widespread condemnation, with world leaders standing in solidarity with India and supporting its right to defend itself. Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive manhunt to locate the attackers, believed to be linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba group. Intelligence agencies have released sketches of the suspects, and operations are ongoing.

This attack has prompted the Indian government to call for an all-party meeting to ensure a unified and decisive national response. The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in the region and the urgent need for global cooperation against terrorism.
