India has stepped up its efforts to tackle illegal immigration, with a special focus on Pakistani nationals living unlawfully in the country. The government has issued a strict warning that Pakistanis who fail to leave India before a set deadline could face up to three years in jail. In Karnataka, Home Minister G. Parameshwara revealed that 137 illegal immigrants, including 25 Pakistani nationals, were arrested and placed in detention centers pending deportation. Similarly, in Mumbai, a 65-year-old Pakistani man who had completed his sentence for illegal entry has been living in a police station while awaiting deportation.
To further tighten immigration laws, the Indian government is preparing to introduce the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025. This bill proposes even harsher punishments for illegal immigrants, including imprisonment for up to seven years and fines of up to ₹10 lakh for offenses such as overstaying visas or using forged documents. These moves highlight India's increasing commitment to strengthening border security and maintaining strict immigration control.
