When you drink a glass of cold or ice water, your body needs to warm it up to its normal internal temperature of 98.6°F (37°C). To do this, your body burns a small amount of energy (calories). According to scientific estimates, drinking one 8-ounce glass (about 240 ml) of ice water can burn around 8 calories.
This happens because the body uses energy to raise the temperature of the water from cold (usually around 37–40°F or 3–5°C) to body temperature. Although 8 calories is a small amount, drinking multiple glasses a day could slightly increase your overall calorie burn.
However, it's important to note:
This should not be considered a major weight-loss strategy.
It's just a minor metabolic effect, and healthy diet and exercise are still key for weight management.
