NJC orders Uzodimma to reverses appointment of Acting Imo CJ, suspends three other justices

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has directed the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to reverse the appointment of the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Theophilus Nnamdi Nzeukwu, and appoint the most senior judge as the Acting Chief Judge of the state.

The NJC, under the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, also directed that Justice Nzeukwu should be issued a query to show cause within seven days why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for presenting himself to be sworn in as the CJ.

Justice Nzeukwu was sworn in by Governor Uzodimma as the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State on April 4.

The swearing-in of Nzeukwu came months after the former Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Chikeka, was removed by the National Judicial Council (NJC) following an indictment for age falsification.

BREAKING: Shakeup in NNPC, Mele Kyari’s henchmen shown the way out

In a significant restructuring of its management, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has terminated the services of a number of senior staff members. This is according to a report by TheCable this Tuesday evening, April 29, 2025.

The portal said that among those departing immediately are Bala Wunti, former chief of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), and Ibrahim Onoja, managing director of the Kaduna Refinery.

“Also asked to leave was Lawal Sade, the chief compliance officer and former managing director of NNPC Trading.

“They are believed to be very close to Mele Kyari, who was removed as group chief executive officer (GCEO) on April 2, 2025,” TheCable said. It reported that “over 200 employees have been impacted, marking the beginning of what may be a series of staff changes.”

Nigerian televangelist deported from South Africa

A Nigerian televangelist acquitted of raping young women from his church was to leave South Africa on Sunday, local media said, just days after prosecutors said they would reopen the case.

Timothy Omotoso was last month found not guilty on 32 charges, including rape, sexual exploitation and human trafficking after spending eight years in jail.

The decision drew ire across South Africa after the judge said prosecutors mishandled the case.

The 66-year-old pastor was to leave from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport for his native Nigeria, state broadcaster SABC and Newsroom Afrika television said.

Images broadcast showed Omotoso at the airport in a grey hoodie and sunglasses, chatting to an immigration official.

It was not immediately clear what time his fight would depart.

FBI, DEA give update on investigation into Tinubu’s alleged drug case

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have said that their searches for investigative records on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are still ongoing.

They hope to complete the process in 90 days and submit a joint report on or before July 31.

It was anticipated that the agencies would release the records today, May 2, 2025. as ordered.

A United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered both agencies to release the records following a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by an American, Aaron Greenspan.

Judge Beryl Howell on April 8 ordered the FBI and DEA to release documents connected to a 1990s investigation of a drug case that allegedly involved President Tinubu and others.

The judge rejected the agencies’ use of “Glomar response”—a legal provision allowing them to neither confirm nor deny the existence of certain records.
