Take-Two Interactive has delayed the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI” to May 26, 2026, moving the title outside of its fiscal 2026 calendar and into fiscal 2027. The postponement caused Take-Two shares to drop 8% in early trading. CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, “We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI.”
The delay could reduce overall growth expectations for the gaming sector in 2025, as “GTA VI” had been seen as a major catalyst for industry momentum. Despite the push, Take-Two reaffirmed its projections for record net bookings in both fiscal 2026 and 2027. Analyst Wyatt Swanson noted, “This alleviates some of the potential concerns around sales cannibalization in FY’26.”
Rockstar released a trailer for the game in December 2023, revealing a return to Vice City and introducing Lucia, the series’ first female lead. The video surpassed 100 million views within a day. In the meantime, Take-Two plans to launch other titles, including “Borderlands 4” and “Mafia: The Old Country.”
