The Department of Homeland Security is reviewing a proposal for a reality television show in which immigrants compete for U.S. citizenship.

The concept, created by Canadian-born producer Rob Worsoff, includes competitions in areas such as American history and science. “This isn’t ‘The Hunger Games’ for immigrants,” Worsoff told The Wall Street Journal. “This is not, ‘Hey, if you lose, we are shipping you out on a boat out of the country,’” he said.

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the proposal is in “the very beginning stages of that vetting process” and said the agency receives hundreds of show pitches annually.

She added that DHS has previously collaborated on productions, including To Catch a Smuggler. Worsoff said he has received positive feedback and has spoken with networks, but has had no interaction with Secretary Kristi Noem. “I’m not even sure she’s aware of the idea,” he said.

Worsoff noted that he previously pitched the show during the Obama and Biden administrations but was unsuccessful.
