Did you know? These powerful sculptures honor the memory of enslaved African ancestors who lost their lives by drowning in rivers, lakes, and the Atlantic Ocean. โ๐ผ๐ฌ๐ญ
โNkyinkyimโ is both an Adinkra symbol and a proverb. It reflects the journeys of our ancestors โ from where they migrated to the forced paths of enslavement.
โThese are the faces of our ancestors caught in the horrors of slavery. I aim to reflect their pain, their stories, and the strength they carried. Each sculpture represents a different narrative, tribe, and state of being before their captureโฆ I want this installation to serve as a reminder โ of our greatness, what we lost, and the greatness we can reclaim.โ
